Alila was founded in Indonesia in 2001 by Mark Edleson and Franky Tjahyadikarta; the name is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘surprise’. It became part of Two Roads Hospitality and joined Hyatt when Hyatt bought Two Roads in 2018.
