About InterContinental

InterContinental was founded on 4 April 1946 by Juan Trippe, president of Pan Am, as the International Hotels Corporation, and renamed Intercontinental in 1947. Its first hotel was the Grande Hotel in Belém, Brazil (1949). Today there are more than 200 InterContinental hotels and resorts.
