Located right smack in one of the most strategic places in Bangkok – just opposite Centralworld and within walking distance to Erawan Shrine and Pratunam, Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong opened in 2024 as the largest Moxy hotel in Asia-Pacific.
Part of an integrated development with a shopping mall called The Market (currently under renovation), Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong was later built on top of the shopping mall as an extension of the development.
With 504 rooms, this is a large hotel by any measure but its multiple entryways and open concept belies its size. The hotel is uncomplicated, with most facilities located in one main floor. It has the same fun and vibrant vibe that I also witnessed in other Moxy hotels I’ve stayed in such as in Bandung and Bucharest.
Transport-wise, the hotel is located in between Chit Lom and Siam BTS stations, with the former being slightly nearer to the hotel. Chit Lom is roughly 8 minutes walk. The proximity to the BTS stations is quite handy especially since the area is quite notorious for traffic jams that stretch late into the night.
As mentioned previously, there are multiple entryways to the hotel. The main entrance is located along Ratchaprasong Road, a small alley that branches from Ratchadamri Road. This is strategic for taxi pick-ups. For pedestrians, there is a more convenient lift entrance facing Ratchadamri Road itself and is joined together with the elevated walkway that connects to as far as Siam.
The 9th floor houses the spacious lobby characterized by a high ceiling and filled with striking design elements such as a stationary food truck that doubles as a snack and drinks bar.
Coming from the main elevator, the right half of the lobby is where the Moxy Bar and Restaurant is located. It’s an all-day dining venue and is also where breakfast is served.
The left half of the lobby is a lounge area filled with plenty of games such as billiards, foosball table. The hotel’s playful side manifests itself here with the eclectic choice of decor that is decidedly modern but still comes with underlying Thai motifs.
Moxy Corner Room
For this particular stay, my room was a Moxy Corner Queen – a square-ish space with a dedicated seating area as well as windows across 2 sides. This is a 26 square meter space that feels bigger than its size suggests owing to the open-concept wardrobe as well as foldable luggage rack. There are practically no fixed furnishings here which is good for those who prioritize open spaces.
The predominant color scheme here is a light shade of oak wood and the wooden-clad feature wall permeates most corners except for the sides with windows. The wall against the bed is half oak wood wall feature and half concrete, with Moxy’s trademark whimsical features situated on either side of the bedside tables – a classic example being the vintage telephone as well as the cute phone holder bear.
Those prone to allergies will probably be pleased to find that carpets are kept to a minimum here, with only a small one by the side of the bed facing the bathroom while the usual curtains are eschewed for blinds.
Over at the bathroom, one finds Moxy’s classic tile motif, though the one used in the Bangkok property is the dark theme. The shower is a walk-in concept with no door, but the separator is wide enough to prevent water from spilling over to the vanity side.
As with Moxy properties elsewhere, toiletries are the dispensed sort. One finds the usual shampoo, conditioner and shower gel although Moxy properties do not provide lotion.
The slippers are rubber – which means these are not disposable and are reused for the next guests staying.
Other Room Types
During my stay at Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong, I also got to check out the other room types. The entry-level rooms are typical of other Moxy properties – rectangular shaped and cozy with no provision for seats except for the work desk.
Of note though is their Moxy Loft, which allows for families staying with kids. Although rather modest in size, the configuration allows for a queen bed and a bunk bed which means that maximum occupancy is 4 persons.
The other notable room type is the Moxy Deluxe. Although measuring only 36 square meters, it can probably be thought of as Moxy’s version of a suite. It consists of separate partitions between the living/dining and bedroom. As this is a corner room, I like how natural light is maximized through the windows that span 2 sides of the room.
Breakfast at Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong
Breakfast is served at the Moxy Bar and Restaurant. The open concept allows for convivial, communal dining – akin to a cafeteria. I have had mixed experiences of the breakfast assortment in Moxy properties elsewhere – and I was pleased to find the one in Bangkok served a wonderful assortment across multiple buffet stations. While one can find the usual suspects such as eggs, pastries and bacon; I noted the presence of a number of local and even Thai-Chinese dishes.
At the time of my stay, I noted Hainanese Chicken Rice, Fried Oyster Omelet, Pad Thai as well as a number of herbal infusion drinks that really gave the morning meal some variety. I also like how they have a daily rotation of mocktails available for guests at the restaurant entrance.
As a purely vertical city hotel set up, the Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong does not have swimming pools or gardens but there is a modest gym located by the communal area with weights and cardio machines.
There is also a library behind the recreation area that is not known to many guests as it is quite secluded.
Owing to Moxy’s central location, the hotel lobby does get quite a bit of traffic especially at night with office workers from surrounding areas coming for drinks. On Fridays and Saturdays, the hotel brings in the weekend crowd with its Moxy Backyard BBQ – a grill buffet for THB 1,000 net per person.
Verdict
Moxy Bangkok is all about energy, style and fun. The rooms are compact but clever, the communal spaces are buzzing and Instagram-ready and the staff add a playful, welcoming vibe. It’s not for those chasing quiet luxury or the full list of amenities / facilities but if you’re after a lively, well-located spot that’s full of personality, Moxy hits the mark.
